About MacForce

Who is MacForce?

MacForce is Portland's only independent Apple Authorized Service Provider. Founded in 1991, we've been Portland's trusted Apple shop for over 35 years. We perform the same warranty and AppleCare repairs as the Apple Store, using genuine Apple parts and Apple-certified technicians, with the personal attention and flexibility of a local shop.

What's the relationship between MacForce, Launch Technologies, and Rocket Squad?

We're a family of locally owned tech companies all operating from the same location on NE Broadway in Portland. MacForce handles Apple products. Launch Technologies serves business IT clients across both Apple and Windows platforms. Rocket Squad focuses on PC and laptop repair for home users. Together, we cover every platform and every need, backed by over 35 years of Portland tech experience.

Where are you located?

We're at 628 NE Broadway, Suite #140, Portland, OR 97232, in inner Northeast Portland. Walk in or book online. We're open Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.

How long has MacForce been around?

Since 1991. We were Apple-certified before the original Apple Store concept was even launched in 2001. Three decades of experience helping Portland with everything from the original Macintosh to the latest iPhone.

Apple Authorized Repair

What does "Apple Authorized Service Provider" mean?

An Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) is a repair shop directly certified by Apple. We use genuine Apple parts, Apple's proprietary diagnostic tools and procedures, and Apple-trained technicians. Every warranty and AppleCare repair we perform is backed by Apple, exactly as it would be at an Apple Store. Your warranty stays fully intact, and AppleCare+ and AppleCare One claims are processed directly through Apple's system.

Is a repair at MacForce really the same as going to the Apple Store?

Yes. As an Apple Authorized Service Provider, we use the same genuine Apple parts, the same Apple diagnostic tools, and the same repair procedures. Your repair is backed by Apple, and your warranty and AppleCare coverage are fully honored, exactly as if you had it done at an Apple Store. The repair itself is identical. What's different is the experience.

Will going to MacForce instead of the Apple Store void my warranty?

No. Because we are Apple Authorized, your warranty remains fully intact. This is the key difference between MacForce and a non-authorized repair shop. Repairs at a non-authorized shop can void your Apple warranty. Ours never will.

Do I pay more at MacForce than at the Apple Store?

No. For warranty and AppleCare-covered repairs, the service fees are the same as Apple's standard pricing. For out-of-warranty repairs, our rates are competitive and often faster than Apple's depot service. Optional services like data recovery are priced separately, and we'll quote those clearly before any work begins.

Can I use my AppleCare+ or AppleCare One plan at MacForce?

Absolutely. We process AppleCare+ and AppleCare One claims directly through Apple's system. Your plan coverage, including accidental damage protection, works here exactly as it would at an Apple Store.

How do I check if my device is still under warranty or AppleCare?

Visit checkcoverage.apple.com and enter your device's serial number. Or bring your device in and we'll check it for you.

What if my warranty has expired?

We handle out-of-warranty repairs too. You still get genuine Apple parts and certified service. We'll give you a clear quote before any work begins.

What Apple devices do you service?

We service all Apple products, whether it's covered under warranty or AppleCare, or it's out of warranty.

Data Recovery and Backup

What happens to my data when you repair my device?

It depends on the repair. Some repairs preserve your data; others (like drive replacement) don't. We'll let you know upfront, and if your data is at risk, we offer optional data recovery and backup services to help preserve what matters. These are paid add-on services, separate from the repair itself, but they're an option you don't have at the Apple Store, which doesn't offer data recovery at all.

Do you offer data recovery?

Yes. MacForce offers optional data recovery and backup services for failing, damaged, or unresponsive devices. We work to recover photos, files, contacts, and messages before any repair begins. For devices that are too far gone for in-house recovery, we partner with DriveSavers, the lab-level data recovery specialists trusted by Fortune 500 companies and major film studios.

How much does data recovery cost?

Data recovery is priced separately from your repair, based on the type of failure and the work required. We evaluate your device when you bring it in and give you a clear quote before any recovery work begins, so you can decide what makes sense for your situation.

Why doesn't the Apple Store offer data recovery?

Apple's standard repair process can result in data loss if your device isn't already backed up. Their official guidance is to back up before bringing your device in. If you can't, they may not be able to recover your data. This is a significant difference between MacForce and the Apple Store, and one of the main reasons Portland Apple users come to us when their data is at risk.

Visiting Our Shop

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is required. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. That said, if you'd prefer to schedule ahead, you can book online through our website at macforce.com/schedule-a-repair. Either way works.

How long does a typical repair take?

It depends on the repair. Typically 3-5 business days. Some, like certain MacBook battery services, require mail-in and may take longer. We'll give you a time estimate when you drop off your device so you know what to expect.

Do you offer loaner or rental devices?

Yes, rental devices are available so you're not stuck without your Mac or iPhone while we work on it. Just ask when you bring your device in.

Is there parking?

Yes. We have easy street parking right on NE Broadway, in inner Northeast Portland. Also, a free parking lot behind our building. No need to deal with the mall parking lot or garage fees.

What should I bring with me?

Bring your device, the power adapter or charger, and your Apple ID password if you have it. If your device is covered under warranty or AppleCare, that information will be looked up automatically through Apple's system, so you don't need to bring paperwork.

Rocket Lab Sessions

What is Rocket Lab?

Rocket Lab is our in-shop tech help service, perfect for the kinds of questions and quick fixes that don't need a full repair or in-home visit. Get one-on-one help from a MacForce expert in 30 minutes or less. Software settings, account setup, syncing issues, learning a new feature, configuring a device, bring it in and we'll work through it together. Rocket Lab sessions start at just $49 and are offered by both MacForce (for Apple users) and our sister company Rocket Squad (for PC and Windows users).

How much does a Rocket Lab session cost?

Rocket Lab sessions are $49 for the first 30 minutes. If you need more time, additional 15-minute blocks are $30 each. Sessions are designed to wrap up in 30 minutes or less, but more time is available at the technician's discretion if you need it.

What kinds of things can Rocket Lab help with?

Rocket Lab is great for quick questions and how-to guidance, software settings and preferences, Apple ID and iCloud account issues, device syncing and connectivity, new feature walkthroughs, and basic troubleshooting. For hardware repairs, you'll want our standard repair service. For larger setups, training, or projects that need to happen at your home or office, in-home support is usually the better fit.

What's the difference between Rocket Lab and in-home support?

Rocket Lab is our in-shop, one-on-one help service designed for quick questions and software guidance. Bring your device in, get focused expert time, and head out in 30 minutes. It's the most affordable way to get hands-on Apple help. In-home support is for larger projects: new computer setup, network configuration, smart home integration, training that involves your full environment, or anything that needs to happen at your home or office. Rocket Lab complements in-home support; it isn't a replacement. If you're not sure which one fits your situation, give us a call and we'll point you in the right direction.

How do I book a Rocket Lab session?

Give us a call at (503) 231-7707 to book a session. We can schedule you for the same week, and often the same day if a technician is available.

Can I just walk in for a Rocket Lab session?

Walk-ins are welcome when a technician is available, but we strongly recommend calling ahead. Rocket Lab sessions are one-on-one, so availability depends on technician schedules that day. A quick phone call ensures you won't make the trip and have to wait, or have to come back another time.

Do I need to be a Mac user for Rocket Lab?

MacForce Rocket Lab is for Apple device users. If you have a PC or Windows device, our sister company Rocket Squad offers Rocket Lab sessions too. Give either of us a call and we'll point you in the right direction.

In-Home and Remote Support

Do you offer in-home Apple support?

Yes. Our technicians make house calls throughout the Greater Portland area with no travel fees. We can help with new device setup, training, network and Wi-Fi configuration, smart home integration, troubleshooting, and more, right in your home or office.

What areas do you serve for in-home support?

We serve the entire Greater Portland metro with no travel fees, including Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, West Linn, Oregon City, Milwaukie, Gresham, Happy Valley, Vancouver WA, and surrounding areas.

Do you offer remote support?

Yes. For many software issues, account setup, and troubleshooting tasks, we can help you remotely without needing to come to your home. Give us a call and we'll let you know if remote support is the right fit for your issue.

Do you offer Apple training?

Yes. We offer one-on-one Apple training for Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iCloud, either at our shop (often as a Rocket Lab session for quick questions) or in your home for more comprehensive training. Whether you're new to Apple or want to get more out of features you already use, our technicians can help.

Can you set up my new Apple device?

Absolutely. We'll migrate your data from your old device, set up your Apple ID and iCloud, install your apps, configure your email, and make sure everything's ready to go. We can do this at our shop or in your home.
